Digital media has had significant growth in Zambia, reflecting global trends. The rise of social media platforms such as YouTube and WhatsApp have become central to communication and news consumption, with younger audiences increasingly turning to these platforms for entertainment and information. This shift has led to the rise of online news portals, independent bloggers and digital content creators, challenging traditional media outlets.

Independent digital news sites have emerged as significant players in Zambia's media ecosystem, often focusing on investigative journalism and content underserved by traditional outlets. These sites have experimented with diverse funding models, including memberships and grants.

In other developments, the advertising market has evolved beyond traditional sponsors, with telecommunications companies, financial services and e-commerce platforms becoming major advertisers across media channels.

State-owned media outlets have grappled with ongoing sustainability challenges while working to maintain relevance in an increasingly competitive and digitised landscape. Meanwhile, community radio stations have continued to grow in significance, particularly in rural areas where they provide locally relevant content in indigenous languages. These stations have become important channels for the development of communication and public health information.

The difference between media types continued to fade, with radio stations developing visual content, newspapers creating podcasts and television broadcasters optimising for social media distribution.
