About

Dr. Martin Schippan advises newspaper and magazine publishers on all legal matters. His work focuses primarily on press law, where he conducts numerous test cases on fundamental issues such as reporting on suspicion, monetary compensation and damages, as well as other current topics; many of these cases are ultimately decided before the Federal Court of Justice. Another key focus of his practice is the copyright protection of journalistic content and its secondary use. Legal issues relating to the use of artificial intelligence have also long been an integral part of his advisory work.

Career

Dr. Martin Schippan studied law and English language in Freiburg, Lausanne and Munich. During this time, he worked as an intern and freelance journalist for several media outlets, including Badische Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and ZDF. Since 1997, he has been a founding member of LAUSEN, specialising in press, publishing and copyright law.

From 1995 to 2016, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Copyright and Media Law (IUM) in Munich, where he was responsible for the journal ZUM and for specialist lawyer training. He is also an author, speaker and expert in press and copyright law with numerous publications.
