About
Advocate Maciej Zaborowski is a leading Polish expert in media law, protection of personal rights, criminal law and reputation management, with extensive experience in high-stakes disputes involving the press, broadcasters, and digital media.
Maciej is the Managing Partner of Kopeć & Zaborowski, a top-tier Polish law firm consistently recognised by Forbes – The Best Law Firms in Poland, Legal500 and Rzeczpospolita - Poland’s most influential legal ranking, as a market leader in media law. Three times in a row, Maciej was included in the prestigious ranking of The 50 most influential lawyers in Poland prepared by journalists from Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
He advises clients at every stage of an image crisis, often working alongside PR and consulting agencies, and supports the preparation of press responses under the Polish Press Law Act. His experience also includes pre-publication and post-production legal review of press, audiovisual, and digital content, covering both press law and copyright issues.
Career
For many years, Maciej has advised and represented clients in the most complex and sensitive media-related matters in Poland, including defamation disputes, rectification proceedings, press-law litigation, and strategic image-protection cases. His practice focuses on safeguarding reputation, privacy, and freedom of expression in situations where legal risk intersects with public debate and media pressure.
Maciej acts for politicians, journalists, media owners, publishers, artists, public figures, entrepreneurs, and senior executives facing reputational crises, coordinated media attacks, or litigation arising from press publications. He is particularly recognised for handling precedent-setting cases concerning the protection of personal rights and for successfully representing investigative journalists in disputes challenging attempts to suppress or discredit their work.
In addition to working at renowned law firms in Warsaw, he gained experience working as a lawyer in the Polish Parliament, the Ministry of Justice, and the Polish Embassy in Rome, among others.
He graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw, completed postgraduate studies in Intellectual Property Law and Evidence Law, and holds a certificate from Harvard Law School (ALP).
In addition to his advisory and litigation practice, Maciej serves as a judge of the State Tribunal of Poland, which adjudicates constitutional accountability of the highest state officials.
